What is a passkey and how does Keeper support them?

A passkey is a cryptographic credential that lets you log in to accounts and apps without entering a password or a second factor. Passkeys are phishing-resistant and more secure than traditional passwords.

Passkeys only work on websites and apps that have been built to support them. See the list of supported sites, which is growing over time.

Creating a passkey: Visit the security or account settings page of a supporting website and select the option to create a passkey. Keeper will intercept the request and offer to save the passkey to your vault.

Logging in with a passkey: On a supporting site, choose "Sign in with a passkey" (or similar), then select Use Passkey in the KeeperFill window.

Where passkeys live: Passkeys are stored in your Keeper Vault as a field on the record, alongside the date created, username, and the site or app they belong to (the "relying party"). Passkey records can be organized into folders and shared with other users just like any other record, and they sync across your browsers and devices through your vault.

Mobile support: Passkeys are supported on Android 14+ and iOS 17+.

Setting up passkeys on Android: Open your device's Settings app and select Passwords, passkeys & accounts. Make sure Keeper is set as your preferred autofill service; if it isn't already enabled, tap Change and select Keeper from the list.

Setting up passkeys on iOS: Open Settings and select Passwords, then Password Options. Toggle on AutoFill Passwords and Passkeys, then select Keeper so it shows a checkmark. If you've used autofill before, you may also want to deselect iCloud Passwords & Keychain for the most accurate results.
