How to Call a Phone Number Saved in a Custom Field on Mobile
If you've added a phone number to a custom field on a record and tapping it only copies the number to your clipboard instead of dialing, this article explains how to place the call. This applies on both iOS and Android.
Why This Happens
On mobile, tapping a phone number saved in a custom field copies it to your clipboard by default. To dial the number, you need to tap and hold it instead of tapping once.
This is separate from the General record type, where phone number fields are still set up to dial directly on a single tap.
How to Dial from a Custom Field
- Open the record containing the phone number.
- Find the custom field with the phone number.
- Tap and hold the phone number (don't just tap it).
- A menu appears with three options: Call, Copy, and Cancel.
- Tap Call to dial the number.
Verify It Worked
After tapping Call, your device's phone dialer should open and begin placing the call.
Common Issues
- Single tap only copies the number: This is expected. Use tap-and-hold to get the Call option.
- No Call option appears: Confirm the field actually contains a valid phone number format, and that you're pressing and holding rather than tapping quickly.
